FAQ

What is Rush?
Rush is a period of time in which fraternities and sororities try to recruit members. If you choose to participate, you become a rushee. Throughout the rush period, sisters hold a mixture of free events in which we try to give you a bigger picture of who we are, what we do, and what our colony is like. Rush is also a time for the sisters to get to know you better. Come out, be yourself, have some fun along the way, and see if Kappa Phi Lambda is right for you!
Why Kappa Phi Lambda?
Being part of a club and being part of a sorority is different; we are founded on the ideal of sisterhood. Kappa Phi Lambda is composed of strong women committed to sisterhood, community service, and cultural diversity. Each sister is different and unique which allows us to add diversity to the sorority. Be a leader and not a follower. As one of the fastest growing organizations of its kind, be a part of the foundation, don't just be another face. We encourage you to experience the sisterhood of Kappa Phi Lambda that lasts for a lifetime.
Are there any requirements to join?
Do you have to be Asian?
In order to be eligible to intake, you must have a GPA of at least 2.7 and be currently enrolled as a full-time student at UT Austin. You do NOT have to be Asian. We have many nationalities represented within Kappa Phi Lambda, and as a cultural sorority, we encourage diversity. In order to recieve a bid, you must attend one social/cultural event, one service event, and a general information meeting during the rush period.
What is a bid? How do I get one?
At the end of the rush period, we will have an interview process. This is the final chance that we have to get to know you a little bit better before we give out bids. Bids are invitations for you to begin the intake process for our sorority. Interviews are usually 20 minutes or less, and conducted with more than one sister. It is just a question and answer session where we ask you about your personality and interests. There is also a rush application that we ask all rushees to fill out. It will ask you for your information and your feedback on the rush events you attended. You must attend all required events, have filled out an application, and be interviewed to be considered for a bid. Once you receive a bid, you have until the end of the day to come back to us with an answer, stating whether or not you would like to take the next step into the intake process for Kappa Phi Lambda.
What is the intake process? I heard it was really hard! Do you haze?
Shortly after accepting your bid, you will start your journey towards sisterhood through the intake process. There are no specific guidelines as to how long it will be, or how hard, but the purpose of the intake process is to challenge you, and teach you more about yourself, your line sisters, and the sisters of this sorority. As with any organization on campus, the intake process requires your time and dedication. It gives you a sneak peek into the lifestyle of our sisters, and shows you what it means to truly be a Kappa. We have a strict NO HAZING POLICY. We would not make you do anything that we would not do. Intaking IS difficult. There’s no nice way to say that. It’s a big time commitment, and not to be taken lightly. When you work hard for something, you appreciate it that much more when you earn it; that is how intaking is.
