Although we are an Asian / Asian American interest sorority, by no means are we Asian exclusive. Across the nation, sisters represent over 50 different ethnicities and over 30 different native languages. We believe that by educating our community about the beauty and complexity of Pan-Asian cultural heritage, we also uphold the importance of understanding all cultures. We both host and attend a variety of cultural-awareness centered events across campus.
When our 7 Charters established Kappa Phi Lambda at The University of Texas at Austin, they aimed to learn about the multitude of cultures present on campus and also to educate others about those cultures as a way to foster unity and respect. Ever since 2009, every Spring semester, we have host Worlds Unite, a cultural showcase, that brings together food, performances, and, most importantly, people to celebrate one another in our differences but also in our similarities. This showcase is free for all to attend because we believe breaking down barriers and creating a space to talk about culture will help give students a place of belonging and curiosity.
